Convocation 2008

Being my senior year at Smith College, I had high expectations for our house spirit at Convocation. I must say ladies, you have successfully fulfilled my prospects. To the first years and transfers, you are phenomenal and I am so excited that you entered Jordan House with a bang! I think all of Jordan House would agree that your spirits made us proud. Yay!

So today is the first day of classes. I hope everyone enjoys their classes thoroughly and if not, get out ASAP. It was kind of a bummer that Banner was down but worse things could have happened. Speaking of classes I have my first seminar right now! Ah!

Fall swiftly approaches

I am so excited for Smith I can hardly contain myself. I am not leaving until the first (or the second? why can't housing make up its mind about when I am allowed to move in) and already I have started packing, planning... convocation should be fantastic (oh those wild and crazy kids.. I miss old school nickelodeon) and this school year will be a busy one.

I was thinking about all of the great opportunities Smith has given me and here is what I have thus far (please add... conversation starter!):
- Pond. Enough said.
- Fantastic classes with teachers, connections, relationships.
- Traveling Europe for a semester*
- Multiple lectures, conferences (I saw Julia Styles last semester.. did youuu?)
- parlez vous francais?
- Jordan House, the greatest house on campus notorious for its parties and awesome people.
- Jordan House study groups
- Jordan House movie nights
- Jordan House ice cream nights
- Senior banquets
-First year/Senior night (be prepared firsties)
- Amherst/ Umass campuses
- Haymarket
- Thornes
- a lot.

Anyways I am kind of babbling.. I just wanted to share my excitement and love for smith college.

* My host dad from Denmark called me yesterday to check up on me... he wants me to visit him next summer. Also, my roomate from Denmark, Sue, is watching the olympic games right now in Beijing. She told me if I ever need a place to stay in China there is always a room available. Neat!

Hello!

Welcome, Bienvenue, Velkommen, Velbekomme (that's danish for all you Americans), Gyaari (Ghana)*. This is the official Jordan House Blog to document our incredible year and hopefully years to come as well. Let me begin with an introduction of sorts.

I am a senior at Smith College as well as in Jordan House and I am a neuroscience major who has decided to take the crazy pre-med route (let's chat if you are interested). I am the former house SAA (2006-2007 with Jocey) and I enjoy crosswords, reading the news and being outdoors.
Fun Facts: I studied abroad in Denmark last fall semester
I am currently reading The Three Pound Enigma, a book about the mind and thinking.
I am also reading A Civil Action.
I love Harry Potter.. as in the books, not the movies. Though I am planning on seeing the Harry Potter movie in November (HOUSE FIELD TRIP! IMAX maybe?)

So what's in store for Jordan House this year? Lots of good times with parties, intramural sports (we kick ass) and some house field trips! And of course awesome study parties during the midterm and final season. So feel free to add this blog to your list of ones to check regularly and get pumped for the fall semester.. what whatttt
